Travis Head was fittingly adjudged Player of the Match in the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test series on Sunday, December 8. The southpaw scored a breathtaking century in Australia's first innings to help the world Test champions take a commanding 157-run lead. In the second innings, India were dismissed for 175 as Pat Cummins led from the front by picking up a five-for.
After levelling the five-match series 1-1, Cummins extolled Head, who scored an exhilarating 140 off 141 balls, hitting 17 fours and four sixes. The experienced seamer highlighted Head's aggressive approach, asserting that it has turned matches in favour of The Baggy Greens across formats.
"It feels like every time he walks out, the game's kind of in the balance, it can go one or two ways and, within the space of a session or so he really takes the game out of their (India) hands, and he just pressures right back onto the opposition, hits into weird areas and he feels like there's a small opportunity, to up the ante and again just take the game away from the opposition. He's done it time and time again for us in many different formats and, yeah, he's super impressive," Cummins said on Head's batting during the post-match press conference.
Umpire set in pretty quickly and then that was the end of it: Pat Cummins
Cummins did not wish to read too much into the verbal altercation between Head and Mohammed Siraj. The 31-year-old downplayed the moment, saying that such things happen in high-stakes encounters and mentioned how the umpires swiftly pacified the situation.
"Look, it's heated. It's a big series. You know, it's been packed crowds all the days. There's a lot riding on it. Yeah, I think the umpire set in pretty quickly and then that was the end of it," Cummins said on Head and Siraj spat.
