Twitter Reactions: Glenn Maxwell makes his grand return to Punjab Kings
Maxwell was roped in by PBKS for INR 4.2 crore.
The IPL (Indian Premier League) 2025 mega auction has seen several big names come under the hammer so far. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and many more stars have come forth and have been sold to various franchises.
Similarly, star Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell also came under the hammer. Maxwell was let go by Royal Challengers Bengaluru ahead of the mega auction, and in a homecoming of sorts, Maxwell was roped in by Punjab Kings for INR 4.2 crore.
It is worth noting that Glenn Maxwell has played 134 matches in the IPL so far, where he has managed to score 2,771 runs and has taken 37 wickets in the process. Maxwell would be a fine addition to Punjab’s ranks who have been especially impactful in the IPL mega auction.
Punjab Kings rope in several big names in IPL 2025 mega auction
Punjab Kings have been quite active on day 1 of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The side broke the records after they bought star India batter Shreyas Iyer for a whopping INR 26.75 crore. It is worth noting that Kings came into the auction with the biggest purse as they had only retained two players ahead of the auction.
It is interesting to note that Shreyas Iyer could also be a potential option to be Punjab’s leader in the upcoming season of the IPL. Recently, Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach of the side, talked about the same as well.
"I haven’t spoken to him (Shreyas Iyer about captaincy) yet. I tried to call him before the auction but he didn’t pick up. He’s been a successful captain in IPL before, I worked with him 3 for 4 years in Delhi and he was the championship winner last season. I’m delighted to work with him again, if he can do that for us in the IPL I’ll be pretty happy,” Ricky Ponting said.
