On Day 2, Pakistan continued from where they left and put on a strong show with the bat on Tuesday, October 8, at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. They were eventually bowled out for 556 before England went through to Stumps at 96/1 in 20 overs.
Pakistan started Day 2 at 328/4, with Saud Shakeel and Naseem Shah at the crease. They added 60 runs in the first session before Brydon Carse got the better of Naseem. Mohammad Rizwan perished for a duck after consuming 12 balls. Salman Ali Agha joined forces with Shakeel and the duo added 57 runs off 100 balls. The southpaw fell for 82, just 18 runs short of his fourth Test ton. Aamer Jamal couldn't survive for long on his Test comeback as he was dismissed by Carse.
When Shaheen Afridi joined Salman in the middle, it seemed that the tourists would get their opponents out for under 500 as they slumped to 464/8. However, Shaheen put on a splendid batting performance and stitched an 85-run stand with Salman off just 103 balls.
After the left-arm pacer was dismissed, Salman completed his third Test ton. He eventually finished unbeaten on 104 off 119 balls as Pakistan were bowled out for 556.
All the England bowlers who were used by Ollie Pope had wickets to show for their efforts. Jack Leach picked up three wickets, while Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse bagged two wickets, respectively. Chris Woakes, Shoaib Bashir, and Joe Root snapped up one wicket each.
Ollie Pope perishes for a duck before England unlocks Bazball
Pope opened alongside Zak Crawley in the absence of regular opener Ben Duckett, who injured his thumb while taking Abrar Ahmed's catch. However, the forced change didn't pay dividends as the stand-in skipper was out for a duck in the second over as Jamal took a stunning catch.
However, following this dismissal, it was all about Crawley playing some exquisite shots and Joe Root giving him solid company at the other end. In 112 balls, Root and Crawley added 92 runs, and the latter smashed 64 from it. Meanwhile, the former England skipper remained not out of 32.
