Twitter Reactions: Shakib Al Hasan becomes first Bangladeshi bowler to claim 300 ODI wickets
Riding on Shakib Al Hasan's heroics, Bangladesh beat England by 50 runs to avoid a clean sweep.
In the third One-Day International against England, Shakib Al Hasan achieved an incredible feat with the ball. Scalping England’s Rehan Ahmed’s wicket, the veteran became the first Bangladeshi bowler to take 300 wickets in ODIs. Before Ahmed, Shakib also got the important wickets of Jason Roy, Phil Salt, and James Vince to demolish the top order of the visitors.
Earlier, with the bat too, Shakib scored 75 runs off 71 deliveries and became the highest run-scorer in the match for Bangladesh. With his 300-wicket achievement, he also became the third all-rounder to rack up 300 wickets and more than 6000 runs in ODIs. Before him, only Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi had achieved this impressive feat.
Back in 2006, Shakib took his first ODI wicket against Zimbabwe in Harare, dismissing Elton Chigumbura. In 2015, he hunted the wicket of Hashim Amla and became the second Bangladeshi bowler to take 200 wickets in ODIs after Abdur Razzak.

Discussing the third ODI match, the hosts came out to play for pride at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium against England, who had already taken an unassailable lead after winning the first two games of the competition. At the toss, the coin fell in Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal's favour, who chose to bat first.
With both openers getting dismissed cheaply, Najmul Hossain Shanto and wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim stitched a crucial 98-run partnership that stabilised Bangladesh's innings. Shanto left the crease after scoring 53 off 71 and Shakib came to bat to make things better for Bangladesh. With his swift knock of 75 off 71 with seven fours, he helped Bangladesh put a competitive 246 on the board.
Defending the total, Bangladesh came heavily on the English batters. Shakib, who led the carnage started with the wicket of Phil Salt, who got dismissed on 35. Later, he struck again by grabbing the wickets of Jason Roy and James Vince. Riding on Shakib’s heroics, Bangladesh finally managed to maintain a 50-run difference as the hosts succeeded in defeating England and avoiding a whitewash.
