U19 Women’s Asia Cup 2024: Sonam Yadav shines as India crush Pakistan in one-sided clash
India defeated Pakistan by nine wickets on the back of Sonam's four-wicket haul.
India and Pakistan faced off in the ongoing U19 Women’s Asia Cup at the Bayuemas Cricket Oval, Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday, December 15. India put in an excellent performance with the 17-year-old Sonam Yadav being the star of the show.
Pakistan came in to bat first and were instantly put under pressure thanks to India’s excellent bowling attack. Pakistan opener Komal Khan was the highest run-getter for her side with a knock of 24 off 32. Pakistan were eventually limited to just 67/7 in the first innings as Sonam Yadav conceded just six runs and took four wickets, including a maiden over.
Interestingly, Yadav dismissed the likes of Maham Anees, Ravail Farhan, Areesha Ansari, and Zoofishan Ayyaz. Her spell was influential for India women U19 in limiting their opponents to a low total.
India romp home in a flash
Aiming to chase down a target of 68 runs, India made light work of the target despite getting off to a subpar start as opener G Trisha was dismissed for a duck. However, G Kamilini and Sanika Chalke finished the game for India women, propelling them to a comfortable win.
Kamilini amassed an unbeaten 44 off in 29 with the help of four fours and three sixes while Chalke scored an unbeaten 19 off 17, with the help of three boundaries as India chased down the target in merely 7.5 overs and won the game by nine wickets.
After a win against Pakistan, India's next assignment will be Nepal as both the sides will lock horns at the Bayuemas Cricket Oval, Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, December 17. On the other hand, Pakistan will be up against Nepal on December 16 at the same venue.
