U19 World Cup 2024: Sachin Dhas gives perfect 'birthday gift’ to father with century against Nepal

India Under-19 batter Sachin Dhas showcased his batting prowess with a match-winning century against Nepal in the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Friday, February 2. Notably, India, led by Uday Saharan registered a convincing 132-run win against Nepal.
Dhas struck a ton and went on to win the Player of the Match award. Dhas was happy with his performance and stated it was a birthday gift for his father.
“I feel very good. Yesterday, Sir told me that you would get a chance up front and I grabbed the chance. The need was there for the team, and I was talking with Uday to take it deep and get a big score. I was telling my dad that this innings is your birthday gift,” Dhas said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
He went on to say that legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar is his role model and that is one of the reasons why he wears jersey No.10. “My role model is Sachin Tendulkar and that's why I wear 10,” he added.
India U-19 team beat Nepal by 132 runs
Speaking of the game, India skipper Uday Saharan won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite making a dismal start, Saharan and Dhas pioneered the innings in the middle as the duo stitched a 215-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Saharan scored 100 off 107 deliveries, including nine boundaries. Dhas, on the other hand, hit 116 off 101 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and three maximums.
Saharan and Dhas' performance helped India post a competitive total of 297. Gulsan Jha was the key for Nepal, claiming a three-wicket haul for 56 while Akash Chand made one scalp. Later, Saumy Kumar Pandey finished with excellent figures of 4/29 as India restricted Nepal to 165/9 in their allotted overs.
