The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 was a disappointing one for the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals as fter making it to the summit clash in 2022, the side failed to make it to the knockout stages of the competition this year.
Following the end of the competition, star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal came forward to poke fun at youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal. Chahal hilariously opined that he did not get enough time to bat as Jaiswal hogged up all the time in the nets.
"Uske chakkar mein mujhe batting nahi mili nets mein (I didn’t get to bat in the nets because of him) (laughs). He is a brilliant talent. I knew him before as well, but I closely watched him in the Rajasthan Royals squad," Chahal told News18. "He has got a lot of potential and is a hard-working guy. The best thing is that the youngster has a lot of hunger to score runs and learn as much as he can."
Yashasvi Jaiswal was the highest run-getter for RR in the IPL 2023
The 21 years old Jaiswal was sensational for Rajasthan Royals and played exceptional knocks throughout the competition to finish as the highest run-getter for his team. Jaiswal amassed 625 runs at an average of 48.07 and a brilliant strike rate of 163.61.
The youngster also scored his first IPL century in the high-octane clash against Mumbai Indians and his knocks at the top of the order were crucial for the Royals in many games. Overall, he finished as the fifth-highest run-getter in the competition, behing Shubman Gill, Faf du Plessis, Devon Conway and Virat Kohli.
However, his performances were unable to propel Rajasthan to the knockout stages of the tournament as they were eliminated from the league stages after finished at fifth spot in the IPL points table with 14 points in 14 matches, just one win short of making it to the playoffs.
