India and England are facing each other in the second ODI in the three-match series at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, on Sunday, February 9. After an impressive outing in the T20I series where he finished with 14 wickets from five matches, Varun Chakravarthy makes his debut in the 50-over format, having received his maiden cap from Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the second ODI.

Chakravarthy became the second-oldest player to make his ODI debut for India at the age of 33 years and 164 days. Farookh Engineer holds the record, having made his debut when he was 36 years and 138 days old. Incidentally, Engineer's debut also came against England.

Notably, Varun Chakravarthy has a commendable record in List A cricket. He has picked up 59 wickets from 23 matches at an average of 14.13. The Tamil Nadu spinner replaced Kuldeep Yadav, who underwent sports hernia surgery in October and made his comeback in the first ODI. He was a last-minute addition to the ODI squad. India have three more days to announce their final Champions Trophy squad. While the mystery spinner hasn't been named in the initial side, he could make the cut if he performs well against England.

Virat Kohli returns

Virat Kohli missed the first ODI due to a knee problem. Shreyas Iyer was picked in the side in place of the former India captain. The Mumbai batter scored a scintillating half-century and orchestrated a comfortable victory.

Shreyas managed to hold onto his spot as Yashasvi Jaiswal made way for Kohli. The Delhi batter hasn't been among the runs of late. He would want to get some runs under his belt ahead of the Champions Trophy.

Meanwhile, England made three changes to the side, bringing Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson, and Mark Wood into the lineup in place of Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer. The Three Lions have to win the second ODI to keep the series alive.
