Suryakumar Yadav is currently in the form of his life and his fearless approach in T20Is has already paid dividends as the 32-year-old amassed 1164 runs from 31 T20I matches in 2022. The charismatic cricketer batted at a strike rate of 187.43 and courtesy of his brilliance and consistency, Yadav finished 2022 as the number one ranked T20I batter in the world.

However, the Mumbai-born cricketer’s success came in the presence of two of India’s modern-day greats, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The former promoted him and gave him the opportunity to excel while the latter gave him opportunities and freedom in the Indian Premier League to become a better cricketer.

While talking about their importance and his relationship with Kohli and Rohit, Yadav said that he is lucky to share the dressing room with players like them. The top-order batter also stated the duo as "different breeds of cricketers".

“I am actually very lucky that I share the dressing room with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. They are a different breed of international cricketers. Things they have achieved, I don't know I will be ever able to achieve that.

“Recently, I have had some good partnerships with Virat bhai and I have enjoyed batting with him. Rohit is like an elder brother and my sounding board. When I am in doubt, I ask him direct questions about my game. He has been a good guiding force since I joined MI in 2018,” Yadav was quoted by NDTV.

Still feels like a dream, to be seen and called as world’s No. 1 T20 batter: Yadav

Yadav’s rise in international cricket is one for the history books. Despite performing consistently in domestic cricket, the cricketer wasn’t getting enough opportunities in international cricket and when he got one, he stepped up and showed his class to a global audience.

Sooner rather than later, the cricketer found himself as the number one ranked T20I batter - something he still considers to be a dream.

“It still feels like a dream. To be seen and called as world’s No. 1 T20 batter. If someone would have told me one year back, I don’t know how I would have reacted. When I started playing this format, I wanted to be the best and I worked hard for it,” Yadav added.
