Erstwhile Karnataka-born middle-order batter, Vijay Bharadwaj, has joined the Delhi Capitals as the head of the talent scout wing. The Capitals are on a transitional spree, overhauling their back-end with the appointments of Venugopal Rao as Director of Cricket and Hemang Badani as head coach.

Bharadwaj's involvement with the franchise would be to track potential candidates which the Capitals could have their eyes on in the long-term. He will likely attend the trials organised by the franchise in the weeks to come. The first round of the trials gets underway from October 23, while the next is scheduled in Mumbai from next month.

Having been stacked with overseas names in their backroom, the Capitals management is reportedly keen to have players and individuals who have tracked domestic cricket with meticulous observation.

A source close to the developments pertaining to the Capitals emphasised the importance of not switching off during the off-season and focus on the aspects related to nurturing young talents from all around India.

"The IPL is not just a two-month tournament. It needs planning, work and strategizing throughout the year. There is so much cricket happening in and outside India and you can't afford to switch off. Scouting, camps, trials, player development, so many things are at play and a franchise has to ensure they work 365 days a year to be on top," a source was quoted as saying by TOI.

Munuf Patel likely to come in as DC's bowling coach

It is also highly possible that former India bowler Munaf Patel makes his way to the dugout as DC's bowling coach. He has been keeping a tab on various 20-over leagues in India and was also snapped viewing the Sher-E-Punjab T20 games from the stands earlier this year.

With there still being eight days left for the deadline for the teams to submit their retentions, it seems quite probable that there could be more inclusions in the backroom staff.
