Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023: Mayank Agarwal's 157 guides Karnataka to 222-run win over J&K

Karnataka Captain Mayank Agarwal played a scintillating innings of 157 (133) against Jammu Kashmir during Group C Round 1 fixture of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 on Thursday, November 23 at Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground, Ahmedabad. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Agarwal vindicated his decision by getting his team off to an incredible start along with opener Ravikumar Samarth.
The duo got involved in a massive 267-run stand off 233 balls for the first wicket and took on the J&K bowling. Their stand was broken as Samarth got cleaned up by Rasikh Salam in the 39th over. However, Agarwal continued his innings from the other end and went on to score a mammoth 157 off 133 balls smashing 11 fours and eight sixes.
Notably, it was the 14th List A hundred of Agarwal’s career who has over 4,500 runs to his name. After losing his opening partner, Agarwal got good support from Devdutt Padikkal who played a breathtaking innings of 71* (35) smashing four fours and five sixes during his knock.
Courtesy of their innings, Karnataka posted a massive score of 402/2 in their allotted 50 overs. From J&K, Rasikh Salam (1/82, 10 overs) and Sahil Lotra (1/55, 6 overs) were amongst the wickets.

In reply, J&K lost their opener Qamran Iqbal (5 off 17) early in the innings who got dismissed by Vasuki Koushik. After the early blow, captain Shubham Khajuria (29 off 24) and Vivrant Sharma (41 off 46) added 65 runs for the second wicket. However, the duo failed to keep up with the required run rate and lost their wickets quickly.

As a result, J&K suffered a dramatic collapse and went from 70/1 to 109/8. A valiant knock from Yudhvir Singh Charak (64 off 39) helped his side cross the 150-run mark. J&K were finally bundled out for 180 in 30.4 overs as Vijaykumar Vyshak 4/57, 9 overs picked most wickets for Karnataka while Krishnappa Gowtham (2/45, 7 overs) also picked up two wickets. Courtesy of their massive 222-run win, Karnataka sit comfortably on the top of Group C with two points.
