LSG's pinch hitter strategy for IPL 2025
Speaking of LSG’s mega auction outing, the franchise broke all the previous records by signing the star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for an all-time record price of 27 crore. They have even assumed the services of David Miller, who will be playing alongside the retained big hitter Nicholas Pooran. LSG owner, Sanjiv Goenka explained their auction strategy and also revealed how the franchise pipped Pant’s former franchise, Delhi Capitals to bring him into the fore.
“There was science behind going at INR 27 crore for Rishabh Pant. Delhi went for INR 26.5 crore for Shreyas Iyer. So, then my feeling was, ‘Parth Jindal is so crazy for Rishabh Pant, he would go one up at the IPL Auction.’ So, the idea was to go two up from Parth, or even three up, and that is where he would stop. For Rishabh, we had calculated three scenarios, and in all of them, he was very important to us," Goenka said as quoted by News18.
