Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull lavished praise on Virat Kohli for his ability to keep control of his mind and batting during pressure situations. The former India captain is currently taking part in the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

Kohli has been exceptional for India and is currently the top-scorer of his side, having scored 354 runs from five games at an average of 118 and a strike rate of 90.53. The 34-year-old has amassed one century and three half-centuries so far in the tournament.

“The ability to control his own mind and his own batting while chaos can be happening around him is one of the huge admirations for Virat,” Doull, who is currently working as a commentator in the marquee event said in a video shared by the ICC.

Doull went on to hail Kohli for showing unreal prowess during run-chases, drawing comparisons with some of the legends of the game. It is worth mentioning that, in successful run-chases in ODIs, Kohli has scored 5786 runs from 102 matches at an average of 90.40. He has a total of 23 hundreds and 25 half-centuries to his name.

“He averages in excess of 90 in run-chases. When you look at some of the great players who average 50, 54, 55, the likes of (Jacques) Kallis, (Sachin) Tendulkar and those sorts of players; to be almost 40 above them in run-chases is just phenomenal,” he added.

Kohli will eye to showcase his batting prowess when India faces reigning champions England at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 28. The right-handed batter can topple South Africa star Quinton de Kock as the top run-scorer of the competition if he manages to score more than 78 runs.
