Star India batter Virat Kohli has finally departed for the USA ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Amid various speculations, Kohli finally departed and will be joining up with the Indian team ahead of the first game of the tournament against Ireland. 

His timing makes it uncertain whether he will participate in India’s warm-up clash against Bangladesh on June 1. The ace batter’s form will be crucial for the Men in Blue in the marquee event as the side aims to get their hands on the title once more. 

It is worth noting that while Virat Kohli is the only player left to join India’s T20 World Cup squad, the remaining 18 players, including reserves, started the first training session on May 29.

Kohli was in exceptional form in the recently concluded IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024, finishing as the highest-scoring player of the tournament. Scoring 741 runs in 15 matches, Kohli propelled Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the IPL playoffs after the side had just a one percent chance of reaching the knockout stage of the tournament.

India need Kohli in top form ahead of T20 World Cup

The Indian team will put a lot of expectations on Virat Kohli ahead of the T20 World Cup. The star batter put in exceptional performances in the IPL 2024, and he will be looking to replicate his showings for the Indian team as well. 

The Indian team will face Ireland in their first game of the tournament, and both sides will face off in New York on June 5 in the eighth game of the tournament. Furthermore, after taking on Ireland, India will face Pakistan in the much-anticipated encounter in New York on June 9. After Pakistan, the Indian team will take on the hosts, the USA.
