Virat Kohli still has another World Cup in him, I don't think this is going to be his last: Chris Gayle

India have been on the wrong end of knockout encounters of ICC events post their triumph in the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni's leadership. Earlier this month, Rohit Sharma's men had the chance to end the jinx as they faced Australia in the World Test Championship final. However, they were hammered by the Pat Cummins-led side by 209 runs.

Later this year, India will be hosting the ODI World Cup exclusively for the first time. Former captain Virat Kohli will be one of the key players in the team as the Men in Blue hope to win their third ODI World Cup. The talismanic Indian batter will turn 35 during the showpiece event, which is one of the reasons why many are predicting that this could be Kohli's last World Cup.

Legendary West Indian batter, Chris Gayle, however, opined that Virat Kohli has the ability to play one more World Cup after the 2023 edition of the tournament.

"Virat Kohli still has another World Cup in him. I don't think this is going to be his last World Cup. I think he has another World Cup in him. India are favourites, they play at home as well. So it's going to be very interesting. We want to see the team they're actually going to select," Gayle said in an interview with TimesofIndia.com.

"First of all the squad, they're going to select because a lot of people are knocking on the door as well. India are always going to be a favourite at home as well. So, that's something that carries the pressure over to the India team as well."

Chris Gayle names two key players for India in the upcoming World Cup

The 43-year-old Gayle was asked to name a couple of players, who he thinks would be key to India's chances at the 2023 ODI World Cup. The destructive left-handed batter picked injured pacer Jasprit Bumrah and star batter Suryakumar Yadav. Bumrah is currently recuperating from a back injury at the NCA, while Suryakumar Yadav will be seen in action during India's upcoming ODI series against the West Indies.

"[Jasprit] Bumrah for sure. I'm sure he's going to be back. And young man Surya [Suryakumar Yadav]. These two guys."

The highly-anticipated mega event gets underway with England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad on October 5. India begin their campaign on October 8 as they face Australia in Chennai.
