Star India batter Virat Kohli recently missed the five-match Test series against England to be with his Bollywood actor wife Anushka Sharma as the couple welcomed their second child ‘Akaay’. Despite his absence, India managed to win the series by a 4-1 margin after losing the first Test in Hyderabad.

Kohli last played for India in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan where he registered scores of 29 and 0 in the two innings he played. Recently, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh shared his thoughts on Kohli’s sabbatical and stated that the cricketer needed well-deserving rest.

"Virat Kohli didn't appear on the ground. He needed a well-deserving rest and he got it. In 2011 he won a World Cup, he got into the team and he won the World Cup for the first time, we had already played three or four World Cups and he won it for the first time. It was luck and after that, Virat turned into a big player he played in 2015, 2019, and 2023, and even after that he couldn't get his hands on the trophy", Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

Notably, Kohli was a part of India’s 2011 World Cup winning squad where he even scored a magnificent hundred in the opening game against Bangladesh. Since then, he hasn’t been able to lay his hands on a World Cup trophy despite playing five editions of the T20 World Cup and three editions of the ODI World Cup.

Further speaking about Kohli's hunger, Harbhajan said that winning a major title would be the star cricketer’s ultimate goal and he won’t be satisfied until he wins another World Cup.

"So that feeling stays in the mind of the player. I think he won't be satisfied until he gets his hand on the trophy. He has broken a lot of records and scored a lot of runs. His hunger will be satisfied when he gets his hands on the World Cup trophy," he added.

BCCI to drop Kohli from T20 WC 2024?

Meanwhile, there have been widespread reports of BCCI pondering over dropping Kohli from the T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled to begin from June 1 in the West Indies and USA. Notably, the batting stalwart has exceptional numbers in the T20 extravaganza with 1141 runs to his name from 25 innings at an average of 81.5 and a strike rate of 131.3 with 14 half-centuries to his name.

The star batter finished as the leading run scorer of the tournament twice in 2014 (319 runs) and 2022 (296 runs) respectively, He was also adjudged Player of the Tournament in consecutive editions of 2014 and 2016 (273 runs).

Hence, if the team management decide to drop Kohli for the upcoming tournament, the decision will be met with severe backlash from the Indian fans. The BCCI will most likely announce the squad for the tournament in mid-April and fans would give anything to have Kohli’s name in it.
