Virat Kohli would go for INR 42 crore if he comes to the auction table: Aakash Chopra
"The remaining INR 50 crore should be kept for the overseas cricketers. Virat Kohli would go for INR 42 crore," Aakash Chopra said.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra came forward to opine that ace Indian batter Virat Kohli would go for as much as INR 42 crore in the IPL auction if teams were to bid on him.
Star Australian pacers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc broke every record in the IPL 2024 auction. Cummins broke the record of the most expensive buy in IPL history after he was roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.5 crore. However, the same record did not last long as Mitchell broke the 20 crore barrier once more, becoming the most expensive player in IPL history.
The ace pacer was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping INR 24.75 crore. Aakash Chopra commented on the same and opined that Indian star players in the IPL deserve more after seeing the price of Cummins and Starc.
“The purse should be of INR 200 crore with 150 for the Indian players. The remaining INR 50 crore should be kept for the overseas cricketers. Virat Kohli would go for INR 42 crore if he comes to the auction table,” Aakash Chopra was quoted as saying by Crictoday.
Player who was not part of league for 8 years was given almost 25 crore, This is not done: Suresh Raina
Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina was seemingly in sync with Aakash Chopra’s opinion. Naming Jasprit Bumrah, MS Dhoni who earns 12 crores, with pacer Mohammed Shami earning just five crores, Raina opined that the foreign players earning so much money than the Indian players was not fair given the skill set they possess. Furthermore, he also questioned franchises on paying a player quite hefty even when the Australian pacer Mitchell Starc was away from the league for nearly a decade.
“Jasprit Bumrah for INR 12 crore, MS Dhoni for INR 12 crore, Mohammed Shami for INR 5 crore. And the player who was not a part of the league for 8 years and played just 26 matches was given almost 25 crore. This is not done,” Raina said.
