India cricketer Virat Kohli's childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has made a very strong and bold statement regarding young India cricketer Shubman Gill, on the back of the youngster's brilliant outings in international cricket for team India in recent times.

Shubman Gill presently has been in the form of his life, starting 2023 with a bang, scoring centuries as well as double centuries at his own will, entering the record books with ease, perhaps the new "run-machine" team India would love to treasure, especially with the upcoming World Cup later this year.

He has the makings to reach the league: Rajkumar Sharma heaps massive praise on Shubman Gill

"I believe Gill has the makings to reach the league of Virat and Rohit," the 57-year-old said while speaking in a video to India News.

The former Delhi cricketer seemed absolutely confident that the 23-year-old had all the capabilities and the qualities to be one among the legends in the upcoming years. Moreover, he reckoned Gill can easily match the standards set by the modern-day greats of today. He justified his stance, stating that Gill had already started breaking the records, which Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had already set in world cricket, at such a young age. This speaks volumes of the youngster's mentality and the urge in him to be always hungry for runs.

It is to be informed that Rajkumar Sharma while himself being a former cricketer, also happens to be the childhood coach of Virat Kohli.

"It is great to see that the youngster has overtaken two greats of the game in that list. This shows that he has the hunger to score big. Virat and Rohit have won so many games for India and as a team, you want new players to step up too," he added.

Former Indian cricketer, Reetinder Singh Sodhi, who had closely monitored Gill during his formative years, also heaped praises on him stating that his biggest positive was the ability to maintain his consistency in any format, in any zone.

"Shubman has worked really hard since childhood when his father was his coach. We used to often hear that there was a youngster at the Punjab Cricket Association who used to bat the whole day. Be it U-16, U-19 or here at the international level, Shubman Gill has continued his habit of scoring a truckload of runs and it is this habit that is helping him become supremely consistent," Sodhi stated.
