India are slated to play New Zealand in a three-match Test series, starting October 16 in Bengaluru. They recently clean-swept Bangladesh 2-0 at home and would carry that confidence in another high-voltage home series, which holds massive importance in the context of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC).
Ahead of the critical series, head coach Gautam Gambhir opened up on the brand of cricket that the team aims to play in Test cricket. In the last Test against Bangladesh, the Rohit Sharma-led side played aggressively in both Chennai and Kanpur, especially in the second game where the hosts secured a victory despite nearly three days being washed out. Speaking about that, Gambhir stated that they aim to become a team that can score 400 runs in a day but also be able to bat out two days if required.
“We want to be a team that can score 400 in a day and can bat for 2 days. And that is called growth, adaptability and test cricket. If you play in the same way then it is not growth. So it is not like if we are in that situation and we have to play 2 days to draw then we have those individuals in the dressing room that can do 2 days batting,” Gambhir said in the pre-match press conference.
🗣️🗣️ We want to be the team that can score 400 in a day and also the team that can bat for two days to draw a Test.

The head coach added that they want to be an aggressive side and want to play their natural cricket. He clarified that world cricket might be changing but the Indian team is not fazed by anything and will back itself in all kinds of situations.
“I can't talk about world cricket because every team has its ideology and every team has its own way of playing. I can talk about my team that we have those players who can score 400 runs in a day and such players who can bat for 2 days to draw. And we want to play cricket in that way and not any other way. Here we want people to be aggressive, we want people to go out there and play the natural game,” he added.
