Warwickshire have recently recruited Aamer Jamal, Pakistan’s seam-bowling all-rounder, as an overseas player. Aamer had a great start to his Test career towards the end of last year and he will be available to play for the club until the end of the T20 Blast group stages. He arrived in Birmingham on April 25, and is eager to play in the County Championship match against Nottinghamshire, which starts on April 26.

However, since he has not played any first-class game since the first week of January, he may have to wait until Warwickshire's next game on May 10 to make his debut. Aamer bowls at a fast-medium pace and is an aggressive batter. He will join international colleague Hassan Ali at Edgbaston, who is already signed up with the club until July.

“He really captured the cricket world’s attention in Australia. He took the Aussies on with good pace, bounce, and a combative approach, all attributes you want in a fast bowler. Pat Cummins was named Player of the Series, but you could have made a very strong argument for Jamal to have been awarded that title,” said Gavin Larsen, Warwickshire Performance Director, as quoted by The Cricketer.

“When we found out Aamir was available, we did our due diligence and made an offer. He’s jumping out of his skin to be on the park on Friday. He was on the same Pakistan training camp with Hassan, so we know he’s fit and strong,” he added.

Jamal announced himself by displaying nerves of steel

Jamal made his international debut in a T20I against England in September 2022. He delivered a nerve-wracking final over to Moeen Ali, which helped Pakistan win the match. Although Jamal has T20 experience with Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League and Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League, he is not likely to be called up for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup or any of the matches preceding it. However, this could change if Pakistan experiences a significant number of injuries.
