Star all rounder Washington Sundar played his first match for his new franchise, the Gujarat Titans (GT), in their Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, last week. The 2022 champions will return to action on Wednesday, April 9, as they take on the Rajasthan Royals (RR), at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Sundar recently lost his cool when a quote where he allegedly expressed his displeasure after not getting too many opportunities to play last season in the IPL was attributed to him. During the interaction, a reporter, citing an alleged claim from a commentator.
“You had to wait for the fourth game to get a chance, and someone mentioned on air that you played two games and 14 international games last season," the reporter asked Sundar as per News18.
“What’s the question?" Sundar replied.
“You apparently said, ‘I got only two IPL matches and 14 international games,’" the reporter clarified.
The 25-year-old all-rounder did not like this question, and he darted back at the reporter with a seemingly angry expression. Upon further clarification that it was a commentator who made the claim rather than the cricketer himself, things went back to normal.
"I said that? When did I say that? Did you hear me say that?" Sundar asked the reporter.
“I was definitely looking for the opportunity and was preparing really well. To be a part of the Titans is a great blessing because we practise for long hours. Our coach believes in putting in volumes, especially when it comes to improving in different aspects of the game, and it’s been great for me. That way, I know for a fact that I am always improving, and whenever the opportunity comes, I will be prepared," a calm Sundar replied.
