Only three matches have been completed in the ongoing Big Bash League 2024-25 season and the fans already witnessed a thrilling match between the Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder at the Manuka Oval in Canberra which went down to the final over.
The Adelaide Strikers faced a shocking defeat against the Sydney Thunder in Canberra by two wickets due to Daniel Sams's explosive innings for the Thunder during the chase. The Aussie all-rounder completely turned the game on its head.
The match seemed like going in favour of the Strikers, who were struggling at 149 for 7 at the end of the 18th over while chasing a target of 183 and needed 34 from the last two overs of the match. However, the attacking all-rounder changed the game by smashing 31 in the 19th over bowled by Lloyd Pope.
The Thunders batter smashed the leggie for three sixes and three fours in the over, bringing down the equation to just three in the final over, and hit the winning runs with just two balls to spare. Sams remained unbeaten on 42 from just 18 deliveries and was adjudged the player of the match in the end as well.

What made this innings special for Sams was that he had failed to do any damage with the ball in the first innings. The cricketer went for 44 runs in his full quota of overs, going at an economy of 11.00, also failing to get any breakthroughs for his side.
The innings with the bat came as a blessing in disguise, where he won the match for his team from an almost unwinnable position. Pope on the other hand had bowled brilliantly in the first three overs, going for just 17 and was unfortunate to get smashed all around the park by Sams in the penultimate over which turned the tables for the Thunder in the end.
