Sri Lanka aim to clinch T20I series
Speaking of the ongoing series, Sri Lanka has dominated the multi-format series against Afghanistan completely. Winning the only Test, Sri Lanka managed to sweep the visitors in a three-game ODI series and have followed it up by winning the first T20I of the three-match series as well.
The first clash was held at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on February 17, and the game began with the hosts batting first. The side got off to a subpar start as openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis were dismissed for six and 10 runs, respectively.
Dhananjaya de Silva and Sadeera Samarawickrama added 24 and 25 runs, respectively, but a 67-run knock by Wanindu Hasaranga helped the hosts post a total of 160 runs in the first innings.
Aiming to defend the target, Sri Lanka got off to a rocky start as Afghanistan opened with Ibrahim Zadran who scored 67* runs in 55 deliveries. However, the rest of the batters could not amount to much, and Sri Lanka won the game by four runs in the end, gaining a lead in the series.
