[WATCH] IPL 2025: 'Not reckless, but calculated aggression' - Pat Cummins defines SRH's gameplan in must-win territory

I think we’re lucky that we’ve got such strength that it’s never just blind swinging. Our guys are actually, they’re well suited to striking at close to 200," said Cummins.

The 43rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will take place between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk. Both teams have not performed their best in this season so far and are reeling at the bottom of the points table.

SRH skipper Pat Cummins admitted that their team’s playing is calculative and it is not blind hitting. The right-arm pacer acknowledged that Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klassen took the standard of scoring in the T20s to a higher level. The Australian cricketer mentioned that his and the head coach Daniel Vettori’s duty to support the batters to give their best and the speedster was mesmerised by the batters’ smashing abilities.

“Most of our players are quite aggressive. I think in the first game, where we got to 280 odd (286/6), I think the thing that stood out to me was it wasn’t reckless. You know, it’s calculated aggression. I think we’re lucky that we’ve got such strength that it’s never just blind swinging. Our guys are actually, they’re well suited to striking at close to 200. So, that’s what we always encourage,” said Cummins on Star Sports.

“Travis Head, Abhishek, NKR, these guys, Klassen, I think they really raised the ceiling of what’s possible in T20 batting. The wickets are obviously good, you got an extra impact player. But, they showed that 10 and over you should be able to try and chase that more often than not. If you have a strong batting line up at those conditions. My job and Dan Vettori’s job is to try and encourage them to be at their best, and I think they’ve shown that they've surprised everyone, maybe themselves included just how good their best is,” he added.
