Watch: Ishan Kishan takes brilliant catches on his return to red-ball cricket in Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament 2024
Ishan Kishan took three catches behind the stumps.
Star India batter Ishan Kishan looked brilliant on his return to red-ball cricket. The 26-year-old is participating in the ongoing Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament 2024, where he is representing Jharkhand. Despite not having played in the longest format in quite some time, Kishan quickly went back to work and put in an excellent showing from behind the stumps.
Kishan’s first game in the tournament has come against Madhya Pradesh at the India Cements Limited Cricket Ground in Sankar Nagar, and in the 15th over of Day 1, he took a stunning catch, bending down to his left. Furthermore, he helped in the dismissal of set batter Shubham S. Kushwah, who scored 84 runs off 171 balls.
As Kushwah went for a square cut, he got an outside edge, and while Kishan could not take the catch in the first instance, he juggled the ball and caught it, dismissing Kushwah. Kishan finished it off with a stellar catch on the leg side, dismissing Ramveer Gurjar.
The 26-year-old made a full stretch dive onto the leg side, taking the catch. His heroics behind the stumps helped Jharkhand limit MP to a score of 225 runs with the loss of eight wickets in 89.5 overs.
It is interesting to note that Ishan Kishan’s good showing in red-ball cricket could go a long way in earning his ticket back into the Indian side. He last represented India in Test cricket against the West Indies back in July 2023, and was recently left out of the BCCI’s central contract list as well.
Due to Kishan missing out on the majority of the domestic cricket season despite differing directives from the BCCI and its secretary, Jay Shah, the board decided to leave him out of the central contract list. Kishan is also yet to represent India in 2024, last playing for the side in the T20I series against Australia in November 2023.
