Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis showed great presence of mind during ICC Cricket World Cup Match 25 against England as he ran out Adil Rashid at non-striker’s end on Thursday, October 26 at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The incident took place during the 32nd over of the first innings as he collected a wide from Maheesh Theekshana down the leg side on the last ball of the over.

However, the wicketkeeper immediately took off his gloves and hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end seeing Rashid out of his crease. The bull's eye throe hit the stumps and Theekshana immediately went up for the appeal. The decision was referred to the third umpire who found Rashid short of his crease and declared him out. As a result, Mendis' commendable glove work helped Sri Lanka get their ninth wicket leaving England on 147/9 after 31.5 overs.

After a decent opening stand, England lost wickets in a cluster as Joe Root (3 off 10), Jos Buttler (8 off 6), Liam Livingstone (1 off 6), and Moeen Ali (15 off 15) departed cheaply to leave their side reeling on 122/6. Ben Stokes was the lone warrior in England’s innings as he played a knock of 43 off 73 balls smashing six fours in his innings.
