Star Australia cricketer Marnus Labuschagne is currently involved with Queensland as he has been preparing for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He is leading Queensland in the Sheffield Shield, which kicked off on Tuesday, October 8.

Labuschagne, well known for his antics and tactics on the field,  brought himself into the attack as against Western Australia in the opening clash. He came onto bowl the 64th over of the first innings, with Western Australia’s Sam Whiteman and Josh Inglis putting on forming a formidable partnership.

Interestingly, Labuschagne decided to bowl medium pace instead of his regular spin. However, the moment which caught everyone's attention was Labuschagne placing a fielder just beside him at the bowling mark. He set the fielder right behind the umpire, before pulling him a little to the left.

Whiteman, Inglis centuries help Western Australia reach 465

The clash began with Western Australia coming in to bat first. The side did not get an ideal start as Cameron Bancroft departed for a duck. However, centuries from Whiteman (102 off 237) and Josh Inglis (122 off 117) put the team in a strong position. By the end of day 1 of the clash, Western Australia had posted a total of 319 runs on the board with the loss of seven wickets.

Furthermore, half-centuries from Cooper Connolly (79 off 103) and Cameron Green (53 off 92) guided Western Australia to 465. As for Labuschagne, the skipper bowled a short spell of three overs, which saw him bowl entirely pace bowling. While he was unable to take a wicket on day 1, he claimed the wickets of Green and Brody Couch on the second day to finish with figures of 6.2-3-5-2.
