Pakistan and Afghanistan are locking horns in Match 22 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Monday, October 23 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Pakistan Captain Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision was vindicated by openers Abdullah Shafique (58 off 75) and Imam-ul-Haq (17 off 22) who added 56 runs for the first wicket in off 61 balls.
Following his dismissal, Babar Azam walked to the crease to take Pakistan’s innings forward. During his innings, a notable moment was witnessed on the pitch as Mohammad Nabi gave a warning to him to not leave his crease early. The incident took place in the 16th over as Nabi walked in to bowl the first ball of the over. However, he stopped in his delivery stride seeing Babar walk out of the crease.
Following the incident, the duo was seen having a friendly chat and sharing smiles.

Babar went on to play a brilliant innings of 74 (92) with the help of four fours and a six in his innings. Apart from him, Shadab Khan (40 off 38) and Iftikhar Ahmed (40 off 27) also made valuable contributions to help Pakistan reach a good score of 282/7 in their allotted 50 overs.
Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan on his World Cup debut as he scalped 3/49 in ten overs while Naveen-ul-Haq (2/52, 7 overs) picked up two wickets.

In reply, Afghanistan started their chase in emphatic fashion with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65 off 53) and Ibrahim Zadran (87 off 113) getting involved in a massive 130-run stand for the first wicket off 127 balls.

Following their dismissals, captain Hasmatullah Shahidi (48* off 45) and Rahmat Shah (77* off 84) got involved in an unbeaten 86-run stand to help their side chase down the target in 49 overs and register a historic 8-wicket win over Pakistan. Zadran was awarded Player of the Match for his magnificent knock.
