India led by Rohit Sharma are practicing rigorously ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia as a part of their preparation leading into the clash with arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23.
During one of the training sessions, Mohammed Shami was seen bowling to wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik. The veteran right-hander tried attempting a scoop shot but failed to get the execution right and was dismissed by Shami.
Shami was chosen as Jasprit Bumrah's replacement after the pace spearhead got ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a back injury. Initially Shami was added in the standby players' list and the management immediately decided to add him in the main squad considering his vast experience. The management was also on the lookout for a like-for-like replacement and hence went ahead with Shami.
Team India to take on Australia in first warm-up match
On Sunday, Rohit Sharma and Co. were seen sweating it out as they hit the nets ahead of the warm-up fixtures. They will play the hosts and defending champions Australia on Monday, October 17.
The Men in Blue are currently in red hot form with successive T20I series wins against the Aussies and South Africa back at home. India will have to get accustomed to the fast-paced pitches in Australia soon as it is all about acclimatising as early as possible.
Moreover, India played two unofficial warm-up matches against Western Australia XI where the side won the first match and lost the other one in the absence of the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Team India have also been handed a boost as Mohammed Siraj landed in Brisbane earlier on Sunday to join the reserves.
Rohit Sharma-led India will look to better their performance as compared to the previous edition and dominate the marquee tournament this year down under. Shami has shown what he is capable of on numerous occasions and his experience will certainly help India a lot in the death overs.
