Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 had many moments for the fans to remember. However, the most memorable of all was the moment when 21-year-old Nitish Kumar Reddy scored his maiden Test ton at the MCG in front of his friends and family.

After his century, in heartwarming scenes, Nitish’s family was captured meeting up with former India batter Sunil Gavaskar. In a wholesome gesture, Nitish’s father, Mutyalu Reddy, bowed down and touched Gavaskar’s feet as a symbol of respect towards the legendary batter.

After that moment, Gavaskar went on to hug Nitish’s father as well. The clip of the same has been going viral all over social media.

I was tongue-tied: Ravi Shastri

It is worth noting that the moment Nitish Kumar Reddy completed his century, former India cricketer Ravi Shastri was in the commentary box. Seeing the visuals of Reddy’s emotional father, Shastri too got emotional and shed a tear as Reddy scripted history.

Talking about the moment, Shastri revealed how he got emotional and admitted that he could not speak after seeing his father. “I was emotional because broadcasters were showing his (father’s) photos. The sacrifice he has made to let Nitish play cricket and most importantly the character, the discipline and the application he has shown,” Shastri was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

“That’s why only you (Jatin Sapru) and Irfan (Pathan) were talking. I was tongue-tied,” he added.

Reddy’s ton seems to have helped the Indian team a lot, the visitors have been exceptional with the ball in the second innings, and are looking to limit the Aussies to the lowest possible score and chase down the total.
