India and Netherlands are locking horns in Match 45 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Sunday, November 12 at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision was vindicated by his batters as the top five scored a half-century.
During the 38th over of the innings, a hilarious moment was witnessed in the Indian dressing room as the ICC showed the ‘Iconic Images’ of Rahul Dravid from his stellar run in the 1999 World Cup. As soon as the special montage was over, Dravid, who’s now the head coach of the Indian team was shown on the big screen and the entire team applauded for him. Dravid also happily accepted the applause even leaving the commentator Harsha Bhogle bursting with laughter.

Notably, Dravid was the leading run scorer of the ODI World Cup 1999 with 461 runs to his name from eight innings at an average of 65.85. He scored three fifties and two hundreds in the tournament which came against Kenya and Sri Lanka. During his innings of 145 off 29 vs Sri Lanka, Dravid got involved in the then-highest partnership in ODI cricket of 318 off 269 balls.
Coming back to the match, openers Rohit Sharma (61 off 54) and Shubman Gill (51 off 32) added 100 runs for the first wicket off 71 balls. However, the duo failed to convert their fifties into a big score and got dismissed leaving India on 129/2 after 17.4 overs.

Following their dismissals, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer came together at the crease and added 71 runs for the third wicket to take India to 200. However, Kohli was cleaned up by Roelof van der Merwe in the 29th over for 51 (56).

KL Rahul (102 off 64) came in at to bat at number five and scored the fastest hundred by an Indian batter in the World Cup history reaching the landmark in 62 balls. Shreyas Iyer also reached triple figures as he scored an unbeaten 128* (94) helping India cross the 400-run mark. The Men in Blue finally finished their innings on 410/4 in their allotted 50 overs.
