Watch: Rohit Sharma arrives at Wankhede Stadium to train with Mumbai's Ranji Trophy side

India's Test and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma arrived at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, January 14, to train with the Mumbai team for the second phase of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, the legendary batter can be seen parking his car and taking his kitbag inside the iconic stadium to train with Mumbai's Ranji Trophy side. The Indian Express reported on Monday that the 37-year-old, who had a dismal run in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, would turn up for the training session on Tuesday morning.

Rohit has not played a Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai since 2015. His last appearance in India's premier domestic competition was against Uttar Pradesh. He hadn't become a regular member of India's red-ball setup back then.

Mumbai are set to restart their Ranji Trophy campaign on January 23 when they take on Jammu & Kashmir in a Group A clash. As per a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) source, there is still no clarity regarding Rohit's participation in the encounter.

"He will be coming for practice sessions with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team, and it is still not decided whether he will be playing the next Ranji Trophy game against J&K. He will inform the MCA in due course," an MCA source had said.

Rohit scored just 31 runs from three Tests against Australia. He missed the first Test as he was on paternity leave. The Nagpur-born played the next three games but couldn't get among the runs. Rohit decided to drop himself from the playing XI for the fifth and final Test match. However, during the clash, he made it clear that he was not thinking about retiring from the longest format of the game as yet.

There were speculations about Rohit being removed as the captain of the Test team after India's 1-3 defeat Down Under. Reports suggested that the veteran informed the BCCI that he was willing to lead the side for some more time. However, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said that Rohit never said he wanted to continue as the captain as he is already leading the side.

"Rohit (Sharma) has never said that he wants to remain the captain (of the test team). He is already the captain," Shukla said in an interview.
