Watch: Rohit Sharma carries drinks, shares inputs with Bumrah, Pant
Rohit Sharma might have left himself out of the fifth Test between India and Australia but the 38-year-old is giving his valuable suggestions to stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah every now and then.
Rohit Sharma might have opted to leave himself out of the fifth Test between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) but the 38-year-old is trying to contribute by giving his valuable suggestions to stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah. The Mumbai batter also showed that he is a thorough team man as he carried drinks to the field in the first session on Day 2.
Bumrah is leading India for just the third time in Test cricket and the second time in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Meanwhile, Rohit is a veteran, having led India in several matches across the three formats. The Nagpur-born was seen trying to assist Bumrah by sharing his views during the drinks break.
Rishabh Pant, who, according to many, is in line to become India's next full-time vice-captain, was also involved in the discussion as he was spotted listening carefully to what Rohit had to say. Rohit's involvement is very heartening to see, and it validates Bumrah's words at the toss when he said, "Our captain has shown leadership by opting to rest in this game. That shows there's a lot of unity in this team. There's no selfishness. Whatever is in the team's best interest, we are looking to do that."
India fight back strongly on Day 2, Australia lose four in first session
India had a fantastic start to Day 2 as they dismissed four Australian batters in the first session. Marnus Labuschagne was the first batter to depart, as Bumrah got the better of him in the fourth over on Saturday, January 4. Mohammed Siraj came to the party in his fifth over on Day 2 as he took the wickets of Sam Konstas and Travis Head.

Steve Smith and Beau Webster resurrected the Australian innings by adding 57 runs for the fifth wicket. However, Prasidh Krishna dismissed the former Aussie captain for 33 in the penultimate over before the Lunch break. Australia finished at 101/5 at the end of the morning session and are still trailing India's first innings score by 84 runs.
