India Women U19's Vaishnavi Sharma scripted history by becoming the first cricketer to take a hat-trick at the U19 Women's T20 World Cup. She achieved the feat in the group stage against Malaysia on Tuesday, January 21 in the ongoing 2025 edition of the tournament. She also took a five-wicket haul in what turned out to be a dream debut for the spinner.

In the fourteenth over of the first innings, Vaishnavi was into the attack for the final over of her four-over spell. Making the most out of the opportunity in the game, the youngster got the wicket of Nur Ain Binti Roslan on the second ball of the over, as the batter departed for just 3 runs in the 18 balls she faced. On the very next delivery, Nur Isma Dania Binti Mohd Daniel got her pads trapped in front of her pads as the umpire had no hesitation in raising the finger.

Come the hat-trick opportunity, the stars had aligned perfectly for Vaishnavi, as she got the better of Siti Nazwah for a golden duck. Nazwah's dismissal meant Malaysia had their ninth wicket falling, as Vaishnavi grabbed a stunning three-in-three. At the end of her spell, the figures read 4-1-5-5, turning the maiden outing for the bowler in a magical one.
