Jasprit Bumrah left the field after bowling just one over in the second session on Day 2 of the fifth Test between India and Australia at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, January 4. This comes as a huge setback for the Asian giants as Bumrah has been the best bowler in the series by a distance.
Stand-in captain Bumrah took the field after the Lunch break but only bowled one over before giving Virat Kohli the responsibility of leading the side. He didn't take the field after this and later, visuals were showing the ace speedster leaving the picturesque venue with the team doctor in a car. It is understood that Bumrah is heading to a nearby medical facility for a scan. However, there is no confirmation about the discomfort the 31-year-old experienced before leaving the ground.
Bumrah took the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne in the fourth over on Day 2 as he got him out caught behind the stumps by Rishabh Pant. He bowled 10 overs, conceding 33 runs and picking up two wickets before leaving the field. His absence puts India in a precarious position as they are only playing the Test match with three frontline seamers.
Nitish Reddy, Prasidh Krishna step up in Jasprit Bumrah's absence
With Bumrah leaving the field, Kohli had to bring in all-rounder Nitish Reddy into the attack. The 21-year-old couldn't make a mark with the bat in the first innings but delivered with the ball in hand. He picked up the wickets of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc in consecutive overs in the second session.

Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna, who bagged the wicket of Steve Smith in the first session, added the wickets of Alex Carey and Beau Webster to his tally. Australia lost their ninth wicket at a score of 166. They trail India's first inning's total by 15 runs at the time of writing.
