The legendary New Zealand all-rounder Amy Satterthwaite has joined Adelaide Strikers as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2022 Women's Big Bash League (WBBL). The former Kiwi skipper announced her retirement after the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup in March where she scored 75 runs against India but was out on a golden duck against Pakistan in her last match.
The 35-year-old batting all-rounder joined Manchester Originals for the Hundred 2022 tournament but now ends her playing career. Currently, she remains the highest ranked New Zealand batter in the ICC ODI Batters chart in the 7th position. She scored 4639 runs in 145 ODI matches at an impressive average of 38.33 with the help of seven centuries and 1784 runs in 111 T20Is.
She also took 76 international wickets and goes into history as one of the best all-rounders of her era. She won the ICC Women's ODI player of the year award in 2017 after scoring four consecutive centuries during the 2016-17 season.
I can bring a fresh perspective to coaching group: Amy Satterthwaite
Satterthwaite scored 1458 runs and took 44 wickets in WBBL while playing for Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades. She took a hat-trick in 2016-17 for Hurricanes and won the player of the tournament with Renegades next year. Satterthwaite revealed that she has great respect for Adelaide Strikers and is looking forward to helping the team with her experience.
“I have always had a great respect for the Adelaide Strikers; they have always been a competitive franchise and the squad looks strong again this season after a brilliant performance last year. Hopefully I can bring a fresh perspective to the coaching group and lean on my experience to help the team go that next step this summer,” Satterthwaite said in an official statement from Adelaide Strikers.
Adelaide Strikers lost against Perth Scorchers in the last season's final and begin their 2022 campaign against Sydney Sixers in Mackay on October 15.
