Former South Africa women's top-order batter, Lizelle Lee, has extended her term with the Hobart Hurricanes Women by two more years. Hurricanes locked in Lee as part of their pre-draft overseas signing

The 32-year-old, who debuted for the Hurricanes in 2022, shifted to Tasmania soon after a spontaenous retirement from international cricket in the same year. Although the Hurricanes endured a hurricane-like campaign in the 2023 edition of the Women's Big Bash League, it was Lee who was one of the few guiding lights in the gloom, as she ended up as the leading run-scorer for the team. In the 13 innings she featured in, she scored 409 runs at a formidable strike rate of 146.07.

Recently, Lee spoke on the positive trajectory she felt the team experienced, despite them missing the playoffs by a big margin. She also expressed her end goal which is to win her side ther maiden WBBL title.

"I feel like the team made some strong progress last season, and I am looking forward to playing my role and natural game as we look to bring Tasmania and the Hurricanes their first WBBL trophy," stated Lee in a statement from the Hurricanes, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, General Manager of Cricket Tasmania, Salliann Beams, spoke positively about Lee and what she brings to the table for the team.

"With her and Junior [Elyse Villani] at the top of our order, I think we have arguably the most experienced and talented opening pairing in the WBBL. She [Lee] provided us with great versatility with our overseas pre-signing, and considering we had the number one pick in the WBBL draft, it made sense for us to pre-sign someone who we know can play a role for us. She can change the game with the bat and in the field, having done so time and time again in international cricket for South Africa and in the WBBL," noted Beams.

Notably, Lee indeed has a sterling record when it comes to white-ball cricket, especially the 50-over format. In the 100 matches she played, she registered 3315 runs at an impressive strike rate of 84.22 and a significant average of 36.42.

When it comes to her expedition in the WBBL, she has amassed 2066 runs and is positioned 16th in the tournament's all-time run-getters list.
