After a long wait, the International Cricket Council (ICC) along with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced the schedule for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The much-awaited tournament is all set to kick off on Thursday, October 5 as defending champions England will be taking on finalists of 2015 and 2019, New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Talking about the defending champions, the Jos Buttler-led side will have a tough job to retain the crown, especially with Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes not in the mix. After a terrible summer in white-ball cricket, Morgan decided to call his time from cricket while Stokes wanted to focus more on red-ball cricket and T20I cricket and thus, bid adieu to ODIs.

England (ENG) nevertheless have a very strong squad which can challenge for the coveted prize. Skipper Jos Buttler himself has scored plenty of runs on Indian soil and is known as one of the most prolific run-scorer in world cricket at the moment. Along with him, players like Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Alex Hales and Jonny Bairstow can prove to be a massive threat to all the opposition.
Bowling, on the other hand, looks a bit shaky, especially with Jofra Archer currently being out due to injury. Players like Chris Woakes, David Willey and Reece Topley will have to take some responsibility but neither of the cricketers have made any solid impact on Indian soil so far. Thus, it remains to be a massive concern ahead of the marquee event.
Notably, the Three Lions will host their arch-rivals Australia on November 4 at Ahmedabad. They will be playing against India on October 29 at Lucknow as their other matches will be at Dharamshala (vs Bangladesh on October 10), Delhi (vs Afghanistan on October 14), Mumbai (vs South Africa on October 21), Bengaluru (vs Qualifier 2 on October 26), Pune (vs Qualifier 1 on November 8) and in Kolkata (vs Pakistan on November 12).
After the completion of the group stage, four teams who will lead the World Cup points table will qualify for the semi-finals, which will take place in Mumbai and Kolkata respectively.
