WCA notifies BPL to clear outstanding payments of foreign players for 2024 season
"This is a broader ongoing issue across our whole sport," said Tom Moffat, CEO, WCA.
Bangladesh Premier League 2024 concluded on March 1 with Fortune Barishal winning the title pipping Comilla Victorians in the final at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Long after the 10th edition of the league came to a conclusion, it was reported that the organisers failed to pay the outstanding amount to the overseas players.
In the latest development, the World Cricket Association (WCA) has notified the organisers to clear the remaining dues of the concerned foreign players. For the unversed, WCA is a global players' body which represents the players across top cricket-playing countries through their domestic players' association. The association has also sent a letter to the board to push for clearing the outstanding payments of the players.
"A significant number of late and non-payment issues have been reported to us with respect to the last BPL event, and most of them remain outstanding. This is a broader ongoing issue across our whole sport and it is disappointing these issues continue to be reported," said WCA chief executive Tom Moffat, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
"We continue to urge the game's leadership to step in and ensure they are resolved and the players are paid what they are owed urgently," he added.

Three BPL franchises will not feature in 11th edition
Almost 15 cricketers have raised complaints about non-payment of BPL 2024 dues and the outstanding amount amounts to approximately USD 250,000. Moreover, one of the BPL franchises which is not participating in the next edition, owes around USD 100,000.
Franchises such as Sylhet Strikers, Khulna Tigers, Rangpur Riders, and the current champion Fortune Barishal will continue their association with BPL. On the other hand, Comilla Victorians, Chattogram Challengers and Durdanto Dhaka have withdrawn from the upcoming edition. It is also worth noting that, Chittagong Kings were not part of BPL after the first two seasons, but the franchise will return for the 11th edition with two new teams Dhaka Capitals and Durbar Rajshahi.
