For the first time in history, a women’s franchise game will be running alongside the country’s men’s bilateral series. Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Monday, May 20 announced that the upcoming Women’s Caribbean Premier League will collide with South Africa’s tour to the West Indies in August 2024. As per the announcement, WCPL will have three double-headers and all of them will fall on the same day as South Africa’s T20I match against West Indies.

The CEO of West Indies Cricket, Johnny Grave called it an ‘exciting new concept’ and expects the idea to succeed. He expects the fans to watch the men’s game first, which will be played earlier in the day and followed by back-to-back WCPL matches.

“Women's cricket continues to be a strategic priority for Cricket West Indies, and this is another exciting new concept for WCPL 2024. We are certain that there will be huge interest from people in Trinidad in these double headers, as fans will be able to watch world-class international Men's cricket, followed by the best female cricketers in the region competing alongside some of the best overseas players in the world,” Grave was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Trinidad will be hosting the second edition of the WCPL. The tournament is slated to begin on August 21 and will continue till the 29th of the month and the matches will be played in the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Notably, the doubleheaders will be played on August 23, 25 and 27.

Speaking about the development, the CEO of the CPL, Pete Russell mentioned that he is very excited to work alongside CWI in the upcoming project. He remarked that both organisations are in harmony to provide the best cricket for the fans and expects to have another successful edition of the WCPL.
