We are planning to name a stand after Jhulan Goswami at Eden Gardens: CAB President

Jhulan Goswami played her final international game on Saturday at Lord's against England.

One of India’s inspirational women, Jhulan Goswami parted ways with the game on Saturday (September 26) after the third ODI against England Women. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side gave the perfect farewell for Goswami with a historic series win at Lord’s and managed a complete sweep of 3-0. Goswami bowled her heart out and picked up two more wickets to take her tally to 255 wickets and end up as the highest wicket-taker in Women’s ODIs. 

Goswami, who hails from a small town named Chakdaha in West Bengal, served the country for more than two decades. On account of her incredible achievement, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has been planning to honour her by naming a stand after her at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The CAB President Avishek Dalmiya revealed that plans had been made for a stand to be named after Jhulan Goswami at the Eden Gardens and termed her a "legend". He further noted about approaching army and a special facilitation being in the plans for Goswami and highlighted the importance of providing equal importance to women’s game. He added his desire to watch Goswami take part in the Women’s IPL ,which is set to start from next year.

“We are planning to name a stand after Jhulan Goswami at Eden Gardens. She is a special cricketer and deserves to be with the legends. We will approach the army for the necessary permission. We are also planning a special felicitation for her on the annual day,” CAB President Avishek Dalmiya told as quoted by Indian Express. 

“At CAB we give equal importance to women’s cricket and hence we see so many talented cricketers. They are of course inspired by Jhulan’s achievements. Though she has retired from international cricket we would love her to play in the woman’s IPL,” he added.
