We did not win because we did not capitalise on the small moments: KL Rahul

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul said his team batted well in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday, April 3, in Chennai. LSG failed to build on the momentum after their first-game victory against the Delhi Capitals, falling by a 12-run margin to CSK.

Rahul stated that his team batted extremely well but failed to follow up on the early momentum. He also mentioned Kyle Mayers' and Ravi Bishnoi's performance, stating they had made valuable contributions to the team.

"We batted well, but we didn't capitalise on the small momentum. Kyle (Mayers) is coming off good form; he was smoking them for West Indies and comes here with the same form and intent. Great to see what he's done with the opportunity. Bishnoi is someone I've played with for a while; he gets wickets when things aren't going well, puts his hand up and contains runs. Good to see different guys putting their hands up," Rahul said in a post-match presentation.

He went on to say that they did not win because they failed to capitalise on small opportunities. He added that the game did not go their way, but they will make a stronger comeback in the upcoming games.

"Wouldn't change the toss decision; we didn't win because we didn't capitalize on the small moments. We had a good start but couldn't press on. Not often, we'll find 4-5 guys caught on the boundary ropes; they needed to go over and will go over the next time. We'll take that in T20 cricket, today the game didn't go our way, but this is how we want to keep playing," Rahul said.

KL Rahul called it right at the toss and opted to bowl first. CSK openers Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad displayed excellent batting skills to produce one of the best powerplays (79/0) in IPL history, and CSK set LSG a 218-run target. LSG fought back with fiery knocks from Kyle Mayers (53), Marcus Stoinis (21), Nicholas Pooran (32), and Ayush Badoni (23) but fell short with a score of 205/7.
