Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) explosive hitter Chris Gayle recalled his time with star batter Virat Kohli ahead of the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Notably, RCB kickstart their campaign against Mumbai Indians at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, April 2.
Over the years, the franchise has acquired numerous star-studded cricketers in the squad who have never failed to keep their fans entertained. However, Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers are three players who have displayed scintillating cricket and many a times kept fans on the edge of their seats.
In an episode of ‘My Time with Virat’, available exclusively on JioCinema, Gayle spoke about sharing the dressing room with Kohli, and recalled memories of batting with the former skipper.
“We had some great memories batting together. Those moments we will always cherish. Those dance moves off the field also, I am sure you can see them on social media, I will cherish those things as well. Batting with Virat (Kohli) was just fantastic. I like the passion he has for the game. I like his passion and his work ethic, it’s fantastic. You have to give him credit for that and he wants to show it with his performances,” remarked Gayle.
Gayle reminisces the season when he overtook Virat to claim Orange Cap
Gayle further went on to share another hilarious incident during his time with the franchise involving Kohli, when the latter was leading the charts for the Orange Cap.
“One thing I remember, just to go back a bit, I remember Virat was the Orange Cap holder one particular season. I was getting runs but he was more of the guy at the time scoring a lot of runs. Then, bam bam, two or three games, whatever the case may be, I became the Orange Cap holder. He was like, ‘man this guy just came in, bang bang bang, and became the Orange Cap holder?’ It was just a funny thing that I’ll always remember,” he added.
The duo stitched numerous record-breaking partnerships, with their highest being an unconquered 204 runs against Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) in 2012. The trio of Kohli, Gayle and de Villiers will be seen at the eagerly-awaited ‘RCB Unbox’ event which will take place on Sunday, March 26 in Bengaluru.
