‘We have asked the players to step up and show what they’ve got’ - England coach Matthew Mott ahead of third ODI against Bangladesh
England have won the ODI series against Bangladesh.
With two back-to-back wins, England have already managed to clinch the ODI series against Bangladesh but as per Matthew Mott, there’s still a lot to play for. Since the upcoming ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place in India, the England team management wants their players to step up as the conditions will be more or less the same during the coveted tournament.
Coach Mott also believes that this is the best opportunity for the England team to test themselves physically and mentally. They have done well so far in the series and now their goal is to test the backups and keep everyone ready for the big tournament.
“This is our one opportunity to test ourselves physically and mentally for the conditions we’re going to face in the World Cup. Our ability to read the games here will provide us with ammunition when we get challenged in the World Cup in India. We have asked the players to step up and show what they’ve got,” said Mott as quoted by Daily Mail ahead of the third ODI at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Rehan Ahmed likely to feature in third ODI
As per reports, the team management is likely to give Rehan Ahmed an opportunity to prove himself in the third ODI against Bangladesh. The 18-year-old is identified as a ‘three-dimensional player’ by Mott and if he manages to keep performing at the highest level, Ahmed can very well be on the flight to India for the World Cup. Meanwhile, in this match, Ahmed is expected to replace Will Jacks or Adil Rashid.
Now speaking about England’s World Cup squad, Mott revealed that they have some really smart information about all the players and it will be a really informed decision when they pick their 15, who will be in charge to defend the title.
“There is no perfect science around selection, but we have got some really smart information about how different players compare in different leagues, so it will be a really informed decision when we sit down and pick that 15,” Mott said.
