Rohit Sharma-led India lost their second consecutive ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval in London against Australia on Sunday, June 11. However, following the loss, skipper Rohit provided his stance on India batter Shubman Gill’s dismissal, which has garnered massive attention during the post-match conference.
Notably, during the chase of a massive 444 runs, India lost the early wickets which included the controversial dismissal of Shubman Gill on Day 4. However, after the conclusion of the match, Rohit shared his view as he said that he was baffled as to why there were no replays and zoom angles to provide the apt decision.
"I just felt disappointed. I mean the third umpire should have seen little more replays a little more of how the catch is being held. I think it was three or four times he saw and he was convinced. It's not about whether it was given out or not out. You need to have proper and clear information about anything. Not just about the catch. That is something I was a little disappointed with," Rohit said during the post-match conference.
"The decision was made quite quickly. When a catch like this is taken, you need to be more than 100% sure. It is a final. We were at that important stage of the game as well. More camera angles should have been shown. There were only 1 or 2 camera angles that were shown. We have got 10 different angles in IPL. I don't know why in a world event like this there was no ultra motion that was seen or any kind of zoomed image was seen. That is what I was a little disappointed with,” he added.
For the unversed, on Day 4, Gill holed out to Cameron Green, who was present at the slips during Scott Boland’s over. However, replays suggested that the ball narrowly brushed off the ground but was adjudged as a dismissal, which further mounted pressure on the Indian side during the chase.
Dejected with the decision, Gill took to his social media handle following the close of the day’s play and expressed his displeasure. In any case, it was Australia’s dominance throughout the course of the five days that earned them the coveted mace. In doing so, the Aussies became the first team to clinch every single ICC title across all formats.
