South Africa is one of the teams to keep an eye on during the impending ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5. The Proteas are high on confidence after making a remarkable comeback from 0-2 down to win a five-match series at home against Australia.

South Africa have not been able to live up to their potential in World Cups thus far but current captain Temba Bavuma feels that his side has the ability to turn the tide. The diminutive cricketer, who has been in spectacular form in international 50-over cricket this year, averaging close to 80, said that there have been discussions in team meetings about playing fearless cricket and looking to seize the moments.

"The way we've been going about our business this year, it has been in contrast to what people have known us as a team. We spoke a lot about being bold, being fearless, being positive, and always looking for moments to move the game in our favor," Bavuma was quoted as saying by India Today.

South Africa begin their campaign in the ODI World Cup with a clash against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, October 7.

Temba Bavuma will miss the warm-up matches

Before their opening encounter of the ODI World Cup against Sri Lanka, South Africa will play a couple of warm-up games on September 29 against Afghanistan and on October 2 versus New Zealand. Aiden Markram will be leading the side in the absence of Bavuma.

The 33-year-old will travel back to South Africa due to family reasons. Cricket South Africa confirmed the same on their 'X' handle on Thursday, September 28.

The Proteas have been hit with injuries to two of their players who were initially picked in their side for the marquee event. Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the 10-team event after a suspected stress fracture of the back. Sisanda Magala, on the other hand, was sidelined with a left knee injury. While these two players will be a huge miss, South Africa have enough talented players in their setup, who could take them deep into the tournament. Nortje and Magala have been replaced by Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaad Williams, respectively.
