India defeated Pakistan in a low-scoring thriller at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday, June 9.

The game began with India coming into bat first after losing the toss. India only managed to post a small total of 119 runs after a subpar batting performance in the first innings. However, the Men in Blue capitalised on the ball, and where the game looked to be slipping at one point, India managed to bring it back after a brilliant showing.

After the game, the official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle of Delhi Police took to the social media platform and made a hilarious tweet about the game. “Hey, @NYPDnews, we heard two loud noises. One is "Indiaaa..India!", and another is probably of broken televisions. Can you please confirm?” Delhi Police tweeted.

Exceptional bowling helps India register second straight win

Speaking about the game, the Indian team began with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli departing for 13 and four runs, respectively. Soon afterwards, Axar Patel departed for 20 runs, while Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube could not do much either, adding just seven and three runs, respectively.

It was Rishabh Pant who helped India stabilise their innings with his crucial 42 runs in 31 deliveries, helping his side post a total of 119 runs in the first innings. As for Pakistan, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf were the highest wicket-takers with three wickets to their names. Furthermore, Mohammad Amir took two wickets and Shaheen Shah Afridi got one.

Aiming to chase down the target, Pakistan saw openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan score 13 and 31 runs, respectively. The middle order could not contribute much with Usman Khan, Fakhar Zaman, and Imad Wasim amassing 13, 13, and 15 runs, respectively.

At one point of the game, Pakistan needed to score one run per ball, but quick breakthroughs saw India take the game away from them. Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets, Hardik Pandya struck twice with Axar Patel and Arshdeep SIngh took one each as India won the game by six runs.
