We lost whenever Chandrakant Pandit came in front of us, finally broke that jinx today: Shreyas Iyer
"We broke the jinx today. Whenever Chandu sir (Chandrakant Pandit) comes in front of us, we lose," Iyer said.
Mumbai registered an emphatic win in the summit clash of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. Mumbai faced off against Madhya Pradesh in the final of the tournament at the historic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, December 15.
It was a well-rounded performance by Mumbai, which helped them dismantle Madhya Pradesh’s line-up. After MP posted a total of 174 runs in the first innings of the game, Mumbai managed to chase it down in 17.5 overs, registering a five-wicket win to clinch the title.
After the game, Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer took centre stage and talked about his side’s performance. He also talked about how Mumbai managed to break the jinx of winning a game against Chandrakant Pandit.
“Atharva (Ankolekar) bowled well, he set the platform for us. Other bowlers later chipped in. We wanted to maintain left-hand, right-hand combination. Kudos to those two batters. I think we have created such a mindset that we try to stay in the present and be positive. We try to keep the momentum on our side always. We broke the jinx today. Whenever Chandu sir (Chandrakant Pandit) comes in front of us (Mumbai Cricket Association), we lose. But we won today and broke that jinx,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

This is not the result we wanted: Rajat Patidar
Furthermore, Madhya Pradesh skipper Rajat Patidar came forward and talked about his side’s performance. Patidar opined that they looked to be 20-30 runs short of where they wanted to be. He also pointed out how there were several new players in the squad and appreciated their effort in their first campaign.
“This is not the result we wanted. We were short by 20-25 runs. They were 4 to 5 players who were playing the tournament for the first time. The way they put their efforts makes me happy. I like playing here (Bangalore) because of the way they support me. Not only me, but many players,” Patidar said.
