Border-Gavaskar Trophy legends Matthew Hayden and Harbhajan Singh talk about the problems India faced in the second Test at Adelaide during the series. The two former cricketers talk about what the hosts can improve upon going into the third Test which will be taking place at the iconic Gabba Stadium in Brisbane.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is currently levelled after the Aussies got the better of the Indians in the Pink ball Test at Adelaide. The next Test match will take place at the Gabba Stadium in Brisbane and this will be another opportunity for the Indian players to repeat the historical events of 2020-21 where the Indian team broke the winning streak of the host nation and retained the trophy once again despite the absence of some experienced and reliable players.
The Indian team would have been happy after the win in Perth, but things quickly took an ugly turn in Adelaide where the Indians suffered a 10-wicket defeat against the host nation. There have been a lot of experts and commentators who have given their insights on what went wrong for the Indian team in the day/night Test and one of them was the former cricketing legends Matthew Hayden and Harbhajan Singh.
Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh mentioned that India need to improve their partnership going forward in the series. He highlighted the importance of building a partnership in the game.
“One area where India would like to improve is the partnership. We need to have big partnerships We didn’t get a good partnership in Adelaide because of which we did not have enough runs on the board. If we have 300-350 on the board then our bowlers can bowl them out." Harbhajan Singh said on Star Sports.
Mathew Hayden opines on India's performance in Adelaide
After Harbhajan Singh, former Australia cricketer Mathew Hayden also came forward and shared his opinion on team India's performance against Australia in the second Test.
“Team India just did not bat well enough, there’s no doubt. Even though this was a difficult track to bat on, they should not have been bowled out in under a day and a half. So that needs to be rectified for the Brisbane test match.” said Hayden speaking exclusively on Star Sports.
Despite criticizing the batting Hayden, however, gave a positive take on the bowling of the Indian team.
“Bowling I thought, on average was pretty good. When you thought of the freakish innings that Travis Head played, 140 off 141 deliveries that was just something else. Sometimes, batsmen have their way. ” Hayden added.
