Lucknow Super Giants' fast bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has thrown his support behind Mayank Yadav's potential inclusion in the senior Indian cricket team. Morkel, a former South African cricketer, emphasized the importance of nurturing Yadav's talent gradually, suggesting exposure to the Indian camp as a stepping stone towards international cricket.

Speaking about Yadav's prowess, Morkel highlighted the youngster's impressive pace, averaging around 150 plus, and his ability to unsettle batters with his aggressive bowling style. He advocated for giving Yadav opportunities in white-ball cricket, particularly T20 matches, which would provide a suitable platform for his debut without excessive strain on his body.

“For me the first thing you look at a fast bowler is the speed, then you look at consistency and he (Mayank) is bowling at around 150 plus. His strengths are making life uncomfortable for batters so when you have that x factor you have won that part of the deal. I can’t see why not, he spent some time in the Indian camp, getting used to the conditions, getting used to senior players and the team environment,’’ Morkel said as quoted by The Hindu.

Reflecting on his own experience with the South African squad, Morkel emphasized the benefits of young players gaining exposure to different conditions and senior players early in their careers. He stressed the importance of managing Yadav's workload carefully to prevent injuries and facilitate his development as a bowler.

"When I was playing for South Africa one of the greatest things was young players coming into the squad early, gaining experience, playing in different countries, getting used to the conditions, keeping the high quality in training. If you can give him an opportunity in white ball cricket, T20 cricket, which is not taxing on his body it will be perfect," he added.

The most important thing for Mayank is to gain experience and play as many games as possible: Morlel

The LSG team management, according to Morkel, is closely monitoring Yadav's progress and is committed to supporting his journey in cricket. Despite facing injury setbacks in the past, Yadav's potential has not gone unnoticed, with the entire team eager to see him succeed.

“Now the most important thing for Mayank is to gain experience and play as many games as possible. He has a lot going in for him, bowling at 150 plus. It is about keeping it as simple as possible, trying to bring stumps into play. Unfortunately, last season he got injured. In the warm-up game, he bowed quickly and the whole team was excited for him. We need to manage him, look at his bowling loads, his recovery, educate him, and help him to find routine suits him,’’ added Morkel.

Looking ahead, Morkel emphasized the importance of simplicity in Yadav's approach, focusing on hitting the stumps consistently. He acknowledged the possibility of incorporating both Yadav and Shamar Joseph into the team lineup, underscoring the importance of strategic management of resources.
